Networking

Tyneside Pop Up Film School. During the first year of my course I chose to take part in a practical experience with Tyneside Cinema film studios. This experience included a group filming task where in groups of 5 or 6, we were to create a short film trailer for the horror genre. Whilst doing this my skills in teamwork and leadership improved as I was taking a leadership role in editing the trailer. The day was of great value in the understanding of my role involved with media as my networking was helped by the three Tyneside Cinema staff who gave hints and tips for the parts we were in control of. Some of the equipment and procedures that I have not personally used or heard much about were explained by the staff. Box Clever Events. Whilst in first year of the course I was asked by a client to film and event they were holding to help promote their charitable work. This task had the added benefit of also gaining permission to he...

Show reel

College Promotion In this promotion we were starting to understand more fully on what was needed in the creation of short videos. As we edited this we were confused as this was our first experience of editing. The way that we shot this was a mid shot of the presenter and the guest as to give the interview some reality. Tyneside Cinema This short film trailer was created as an experience of the industry standard of trailers from the shooting to the editing as this would allow us to gain the knowledge. The way we created the trailer was we decided who is doing which role as to have order to the production. my role during this production was the voice of a character and editor. Box Clever Events Promotion With this promotional video I was asked by a client to help promote their charitable work. to create this I had two angles as to have a variety of shot t choose from whilst editing. the editing was slow as to make sure each shot made sense. First Short Film This production...

working in the creative industry

Radio Drama Pre-Production Log

When I started the radio drama, I needed to make sure that the script didn’t have musical numbers within and if there was any I re-arranged the words, if necessary, to make sense as a spoken line for the character. This would allow more chance for the audience to gain an opinion on the character as this would also gain the interest for the audience. After I finished looking for the musical numbers, I then looked for any sound effects that would need to be made using foley. This would help the audience visualise what is happening in the scene more vividly.   For recording the audio, me and my crew headed to the recording studio and set up the area that we would be using. The set up included turning the mac and making sure the speakers and xlr’s were plugged in to the correct places as to be more effective in the recording. The microphone that we used was tested as soon as the rest was set up to ensure that it was working before trying the take. After we finished all necess...

The Importance Of Sound Editing

The reason why you need to edit sound within media recordings is to remove the audio sections that are unnecessary, this would allow the piece to be shortened as this could have a more positive affect to the listener as they wouldn’t have to listen to an overly long recording as they would not be as interested in the recording. The reason that the recording needs to be cleaned up is that the recording may have some background interruptions such as sounds e.g. doors opening/closing and air-conditioning units. These would have negative effects on the overall outcome of the recording as they would be distracting to the listener. An example of factual content being edited is the news as they would have some audio in an uncontrolled environment as there would be pedestrians and vehicles in the background and this would be distracting for the audience to hear what the reporter I saying. The studio is a controllable environment as they can make sure that there are no unnecessary noise di...

Proposal

This is my proposal of this short production. A proposal is used to help the director the chance to gain funding. Proposal The film in which I have made this year is a mystery as there are different aspects of a mystery in the production. There is a section of the production that would help with the sense of mystery as the audience would be questioning what happened with the grandma and farther as there is not much said about them in the dialogue. The target audience for this production is 15-18-year-old as there are some aspects which may be unsuitable for younger viewers as there will be a fight scene and that might upset younger viewers. Stacey is the main character and the viewers would feel sympathy for her as she has been through tough times during the film as she has lost her grandma and her dad. This would allow the audience to connect with her. Jacob is the boyfriend of Stacey and he has a different attitude during the film as he starts as a kind person t...

Castlist

Image
A castlist is useful as this helps the director and the crew know which actor is which character as they might need to do an action sequence and they would need to know who is involved and where they would be, along with their availability.

Storyboard

Image
A storyboard is used to allow the director and director of photography to see what is intended in each shot that would be used, they might experiment with shots and the storyboard might change due to this.

Editing Techniques

Way Down East - DW Griffith, Early Example of Parallel editing. In this clip the pace is set by the editing as the action is happening as quick as they are showing. This creates the pace that the director would have intended as the rapid edits show the vital details for the clips whilst keeping the same pace that keep the audiences attention. This is also an example of continuity  editing  as the clips are related to what is intended as they are all in or around ice and a lake this relates to the other clips as they show a water fall and  someone jumping over ice whilst they are flowing along the lake. This give an example of perception of space as two characters are far from each other yet they are in the same area. Example of Parallel Editing in "The Silence of the Lambs"  This clip is an  example  of parallel editing as there are two scenes happening at the same time and the correspond with  each other yet they are happening at differ...

Single Camera

By definition, ' single camera production only uses one camera for different shots to use in their production' this is the opposite to multi-cam which uses multiple cameras to film the same scene but capture it from multiple angles as well as different distances to film the same scene simultaneously. Some camera techniques for single camera production are: Snorricam: This technique can be used many ways to give the viewer an over the shoulder shot whilst  the character is moving, another way it can be used is to capture the facial expressions at any angle again whilst the character is moving. Steadicam: This allows the camera operator to move freely weather that be them running or walking but the camera is still moving but the shot is completely smooth. Birdseye view: This is where the camera is pointing down on the action to give an aerial view of everything that is happening on the scene. Wormeye view: This is the opposite of birdseye view as the camera looking up f...

INITIAL ASSESSMENT

INTIAL ASSESSMENT During the holidays I thought of ideas for the script of my short film. This is part of my pre-production as this is to allow me to write the script with more thoughts and knowledge to what I am going to put in the script as this will allow more time for shooting the film and editing it. The script is being written as more thoughts and ideas are being made with cast members in mind and a rough idea on who is going to play who. I am also thinking of cast members as they could have more than one role whether it be as an actor or as a crew member doing jobs behind the camera such as: sound operator and camera operator. This is to allow hopefully less overall time filming and more time editing.  I need to think of locations. This will help the film look more creative as the audience will see every location as they are there with little thought as they would see the location and quickly see where it is and understand the film a little more. Amongst this ...

Research for 'A Quiet Place' campaign-Unit 6

Paramount  Pictures released the first trailer for A Quiet Place  in November 2017.  It aired a 30-second commercial for the film during the US football championship Super Bowl LII  on February 4, 2018.  Of the seven trailers that aired during the playoff, A Quiet Place  and Red Sparrow  were shown during the pregame and had the lowest views and social conversations. A Quiet Place  had 149,000 views onYouTube , 275,000 views on Facebook,  and 2,900 social conversations.  On February 12, 2018, Krasinski appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show  to present the full trailer for A Quiet Place .  The studio spent an estimated $86 million on prints and advertisements for the film.

Evaluation of live brief

Image
The platform in which I have done the campaign is a youtube video. the reason why I did a video is that people might prefer a video to a information leaflet or a post on Instagram   This video has had good reactions as the views have had an impact on the club its self. The official Facebook page gained 521 followers after the video went on YouTube. The other platforms that I was going to use were Facebook and Instagram. Whilst doing these They were not visible to other people who tried to find them so I decided to make the YouTube video and make one for Box Clever Events. This was to create another promotion for the client and to counteract the problem with the other pages. Client feedback- 'Really liked the use of cuts too to show the passing of time throughout the event'                                                       ' T...

Stages Of Production

Image
This is the first stage of my magazine production. In this I found an image in which i took and made it the dominant image of the magazine, I also used a barcode I the bottom left corner. The second stage of the magazine production I had a masthead and plugs. The masthead is in the center and at the top of the page as to entice the reader to read it. The third stage of the process was to create more plugs to gain more interest in the whole magazine, with this the idea an informative magazine was changed. Finally I used a secondary image which is again to draw the readers attention, as they would see the name and image and wonder the story and what will happen to the person. The source in which I got the secondary image from was The Independent. The way manipulated the images was i cropped them so they could be in a position that I wanted them to be in based on my flat plan. Most of the manipulations were done during the photoshoot ...

pre production evaluation

The first stage of pre-production was the initial ideas for the project. In this I decided on what I was going to do and this was how I came up with the product. This helped me as without this the product would not have had the same impact and the whole pre-production process would have had a negative effect as it would not have been as efficient as it was. For the ideas I made little notes and decided on the genre, how it would be told and then how many characters would be involved. The way that the next stage helped the overall quality of the production is without the script the entire production would have been completely improvised so with the idea and the genre that was defiantly not a possibility so I decided to make more notes on how it would be set out as the shots being external and internal with aspects of fourth wall breaks as it was to have the comedy side as to show the side of a comedy but the serious side of a horror. It was successful as the cast knew what they were s...

Planning for unit 6

The plan in which I had for the live brief was to make a youtube promotion video. This is to increase the chance of someone thinking about coming to a boxing club and primarily the Harton and Westoe boxing and fitness club. The first idea: The main idea in which I chose is to do a promotion video for the boxing and fitness club, in the video I wanted to include some scenes of people training. this was a possibility for the scenes as we could go and film them in the gym. The promotional video. The second idea: This idea didn't go as planned as when trying to make it work I couldn't do anything of the social media platform that I chose. The idea was to make a Facebook page for the boxing and fitness club and have some images of training along with a few quotes from some of the trainers for an insight into their training routine. The third idea: This idea was to make an instagram page for the boxing and fitness club. Much like the facebook page it didn't go as pl...

Risk assessment-pre production

A risk assessment is made to ensure the saftey and well-being of everyone invovled in the making of the film. The sheet in which I did the work on was hard to read so thats way it is in this format. The risks that were involved in my short film were: Moving vehicles. This was when we were in the shots with Oldman and Karl as well as David and Gary. The way I worked around this is I only filmed when there were no vehicles in the section of the building when I was filming. Shooting in a dark location. This is for the 'kitchen' scene. The way I worked around this is that I made the cast that were needed for this scene knew ecactly what they were doing and the area in which it was taking place as to avoid any obsticles around them.

Storyboard - pre production

This is the storyboard for the short film. The storyboard is used to show the crew what camera shots are wanted but they can be changed if this shot is not possible. I couldn't find the actual storyboard sheet in which i did the work on. Shot one Mid shot of david in his phone (internal) Shot two Tracking shot of Karl (external) Shot three OTS shot of old man (external) Shot four Mid shot of old man (external) Shot five Mid shot of Karl (external) Shot six Same as four Shot seven Same as five Shot eight Same as four Shot nine Same as five Shot ten Wide shot of David and Gary (external) Shot eleven Wide shot of 'kitchen' (internal) Shot twelve Wide shot of David and Gary running (external) Shot thirteen Tracking shot of David and Gary (external Shot fourteen Mid shot of David (external) Shot fifteen Mid shot of david on the phone (external)
