Single Camera

By definition, ' single camera production only uses one camera for different shots to use in their production' this is the opposite to multi-cam which uses multiple cameras to film the same scene but capture it from multiple angles as well as different distances to film the same scene simultaneously.

Some camera techniques for single camera production are:

Snorricam: This technique can be used many ways to give the viewer an over the shoulder shot whilst  the character is moving, another way it can be used is to capture the facial expressions at any angle again whilst the character is moving.

Steadicam: This allows the camera operator to move freely weather that be them running or walking but the camera is still moving but the shot is completely smooth.

Birdseye view: This is where the camera is pointing down on the action to give an aerial view of everything that is happening on the scene.

Wormeye view: This is the opposite of birdseye view as the camera looking up from the ground as the camera is given the perspective of somethings being bigger than others.

Single camera technique is more money efficient than using multi-camera technique because it only involves one camera however this means that the day of production could last longer because of the single camera therefore this could increase the cost of the production. In conclusion depending upon the type of production will depend if single camera technique will be money effecient.

Another advantage of single camera technique is it gives the director more creativity because multi-camera technique involves several cameras stuck in one position but allows the operators to switch between different point but a single camera technique allows the camera men to move freely which allows the director to be more creative.

Further more single camera technique is easier to have variation of shots which could overall interest the audience because the production will look more interesting however if there is a lot of dialogue to be said then using single camera technique means the actors will have to re say their lines and this could lead to them lacking emotion because they are sick of repeating themselves.

For this scene in The Shining has used a steadicam so the camera can be low without unnecessary camera shakes as this can possibly disorientate the audience. This also creates the effect of something lingering behind the child. The impact that it could have on the audience is worry as they might be wondering what is about to happen to the child. Other camera techniques that are also used in this scene are wormeye view to give different levels and different angles for the camera.

In this music video single camera technique is used to show the audience how intense the atmosphere is at the concert as well as in the song a hand held grip is probably used within see of the shots to ensure the shots are smooth and look professional. The fast cuts within the must video shows the audience how the crowd are enjoying the performance and to make them feel as though this is what happiness looks like. Sometimes the camera is hand held to seem like it is rom the perspective of the audience.

In this scene of Game Of Thrones it uses a few single camera techniques. Such as birds eye view and worms eye view. The worm eye view is where we see Joffery from Tyrion's perspective, it is reversed when we see Tyrion from Joffery's perspective this makes one character seem more powerful in that moment. Later we see the roles change but the camera angles stay the same during the  scene as Tyrion is smaller than Joffery but the audience know who is in charge during that scene.
