working in the creative industry

The media industry has many different sectors these include; film which provides many genres as this will create an excitement for this sector when the product is distributed to the public, television much like the film sector television has different styles of presenting the product, radio has many ways the that the product is presented by having different styles of shows such as informative (news) and communicational (talk shows), animation there are various types of way that is representing animation such as cartoons and certain advertisements that would appeal for the younger audience, interactive media has many forms such as social media (Facebook and YouTube) and video games, publishing also has many form these include books and brochures, press provides the public with news in the form of a news paper this allows the public with a portable use, computer games have multiple styles as there are different genres much like film this has opportunities to create many forms of styles such as first person narrative, advertising with this the public can gain the knowledge of the product that is getting promoted this can be in the form of either a television advertisement or print and marketing has similar features to advertising as they are similar in the way they are presented to the public such as television and print but they are styled different.

In the media industry there are constant competitions between some of the largest film production companies, as they want the same goal as each other which means that no matter what production they do next there will always be competition for it. For a blockbuster to a similar style to one of the biggest companies you would need an effective and efficient crew, which includes directors, producers, camera operators, sound operators, scriptwriters and set designers. The director controls what happens with the takes as it is their vision that is getting filmed. The producers unsurprisingly earn more than the directors as they have arguably the most important role in a film crew as they make sure it’s running smoothly through out. The camera operators are there to shoot the product that is needed to be filmed as they would have many years of experience in that sector. The sound operators are there to make sure that the sound is getting recorded properly as not to have to little or to much sound when not needed in that scene. The scriptwriters are to help the director as the film is being written as it would be easier to see who is talking when and what is happening alongside the dialogue. The set designers are there to ensure that the scene is to the directors’ standards for that scene as it might be set up in a way that enhances the dialogue.

The recruitment of this sector has various ways, as it has; networking which would have people trying find the most suitable candidate for the role that they would need the way that this works is a when someone does work for a company that creates networking as there would be more opportunities to gain work. Social media is another example of how recruitment in this sector is different as social media can present the candidate in different ways which could help become that job role. personal contacts and word of mouth have the same recruitment process as there could be a friend that has contacts with other companies and then his word of mouth for you could be the decision maker such as your communication with the company might not be the best then the word of mouth can improve it.

Structure of the media sector

Most of the media sector has a very similar structure in place but it is based on the end point that they would like to reach for their project that they are putting attention to. For film and tv they are quite similar but others such as gaming and radio are different in their own way.

Public service media

Public service media is a service which gives the public news via the media for example radio or news broadcasts on TV. But to have a successful public service team you will need some editors, journalists, writers and many more which can also be used on a television recording.

Commercial Media

Commercial media is the use of advertisements in the media to create a profit. Companies such as McDonalds or Asda advertise their products online to attract attention and hope people are interested and want to buy their products which will allow the company to create a profit. To have a successful team that advertises well you would need an editor, writer and camera operators.

Independent media

Independent media is any sort of media that isn’t controlled by any political party that has certain beliefs in their articles. The sun newspaper distributes its newspapers bother online and in print.

Vertical and Horizontal Integration

Horizontal integration is mainly being invested in the same sector throughout its time. Unlike Vertical integration which is big companies such as Disney which branch out into different media sectors.

Cross media

Cross media is the transporting of different products throughout media sectors. Amazon is a perfect example of this as it sells games, toys, electronics, furniture and even books.

Multi-platform media

Multi-platform media is the distributing of content over many types of media outlets for example Microsoft. Microsoft have made many different media platforms as they have made the ‘xbox’, helped with the creation of pc’s, and tablets but they are commonly known for creating Word. The staff needed this for this would be a large number of marketing and technology specialists.

Multinational media

Multinational media is the use of dispatching media across the whole world for example a few well known gaming companies are based across the world to help share some important news on their latest games. Which will need a large number of marketing staff to allow for all of this to happen.

the career opportunities in this sector has multiple variations as the nature of the sector will have an impact on what opportunities can arise in your job role. as there would be more people want the same role depending on the nature as film can have more job roles compared to radio. the size of the industry will also have an impact again with film it's size compared to that of radio is much larger as it has many different roles and styles so the impact for opportunities would be worse for the radio. Some sectors of the media industry have mergers or takeovers more than others as in the television sector they would have different shows be taken over by other channels which would then make more profit for them, this is the same in the radio sector as there would be mergers with other radio stations to broaden the listeners from different stations.

The ethical issues that the employees for the film sector in the media industry would have to be aware of are the representation of groups as they would not want to upset the groups or communities that they are trying to represent such as the LGBT community as there might be a member working alongside them and if they were to become upset it would cause problems between them and the production of the product. Another is representations of religious beliefs as again this would cause problems for the production and could be seen as racist if the wrong term was to be mentioned. With the use of language they would have to be careful as they could upset a colleague or viewer of the product that they are creating this would link in with the other points mentioned.

The legal issues that the employees would have to be aware of in the film sector for the media industry are the content that they are producing such as if they were to be seen enticing the public to commit crimes this would have bad consequences for non-adherence as this would result in them being fired, fined and/or being arrested depending on the crime they were imposing. copyright is another issue as it could result in fines as it could be the use of an image or music which was copyrighted by the creator. And privacy has complications as if you breach someone's privacy policy then you can be fined as it is something that you can't break as it can cause problems with them and the production.
