Practice mise en scene analysis: Psycho (1960)

The costume: a dress from about the 60’s, a suit from about the same era.

The props: a brief case in the room to symbolize that Marion has just got there, a tray with some food and a jug, in another room there are some stuffed birds. At the end there is a book which has people’s names and signatures in.

The lighting: is using lights rather than set lights they use effectively low key/ ambient lighting.

The sounds: the music is sharp so it makes you think. T increases and decreases in volume it increases when they aren’t doing much just looking at things and decreases when they talk to each other.

The setting: is a motel in the 60’s. the atmosphere is eerie as the music helps make that impact happen as when they are talking the music is subtlety still playing in the background.
